Strawberry Shortcake

A quintessential summer dessert, strawberry shortcake is light, refreshing, and bursting with flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped

Instructions:

  1. Combine strawberries and 1/4 cup sugar. Set aside to macerate.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). In a bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until combined.
  4. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Split shortcakes in half. Top with strawberries and whipped cream.
