Strawberry Shortcake
A quintessential summer dessert, strawberry shortcake is light, refreshing, and bursting with flavor.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream, whipped
Instructions:
- Combine strawberries and 1/4 cup sugar. Set aside to macerate.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). In a bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until combined.
- Drop dough by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Split shortcakes in half. Top with strawberries and whipped cream.
